After relaxing for a few days we thought we had better get a move on if we were to fit in all we had planned and so arrived in Porto Stintino after passing a narrow channel between the islands with little depth. We had a great day there discovering the beautiful town followed by a romantic dinner on a terrace next to the sea. The following day before we left we were lucky to meet Luca and Monica, an Italian couple who were great company, head over heels for each other and invited us to try Mirto (Sardinian Licqour) aboard their boat. I was also invited to to try a Tuscan cigar which I'll be taking Luca's advice on and buying more before we leave Italy!
We headed from Stintino to the north of the island, Cabo Testa, where we once again started our life at anchor in fantastic calas, full of incredible yachts. Its difficult to imagine, knowing ports like La Coruna and Brixham, the yachts that navigate this coast, and we're sure that they must be owned by the well known, rich and famous, with few of the yachts being worth less than £3million. We sailed from cala to cala until we reached Porto Cervo, known as the playground of the rich and famous (Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, etc, etc). We managed to pick up a bouy inside the harbour with fear of the price we were going to be charged for using it, but in the end we left thew following with out paying a cent, although we're not sure how, but thanks to those marina staff who payed us little interest.
With plane tickets alreday bought for a trip from Rome to Santiago for the 19th, we decided it was time to move our backsides and start our passage from Sardinia to Italy. And here we are (at the time of writing) in Rome, enjoying this incredible city full of history but with 40 degress heat! Rome is all we expected but the biggest impact for us was the Vatican, St Peters Square which left us speachless, not just because of sheer size, but also for the atmosphere.
We're now having a drink in the port (at time of writing) and preparing for our journey to La Coruna tomorrow for a big family party, sure that for us the relative temperature will feel cold,l but we'll manage!
NB! This blog written 18th August and posted 1st September due to a long spell without internet. We're currently in the bay of Naples and will post another update soon!
